Let’s get this out of the way first: I’m not talking about religion. This is not about dogma, rules, or who’s right and who’s wrong. This is about something much deeper, much more essential, your connection to life itself.
Here’s the truth: a lot of people walk around saying, “I don’t believe in anything.” They roll their eyes at spirituality, dismiss it as silly or unnecessary, and lean fully on logic, hustle, and distractions to get them through. And listen, I get it. For a long time, we’ve been trained to think that being “practical” means cutting off anything that doesn’t fit neatly into a spreadsheet.
But here’s the problem with that: when life gets hard—and it will—you need more than willpower and caffeine to get through it. You need something to lean on that won’t crumble when the pressure is on.
Why We Need Something Beyond Ourselves
Think about it. When the world feels unstable, when the job ends, when the relationship falls apart, what do you turn to? If you don’t have a foundation that connects you to something bigger than your own thoughts, you’re left spinning. And the spinning never ends.
Spirituality, whatever form it takes for you, isn’t about pretending bad things don’t happen. It’s about having a center, a place inside yourself where you can breathe, recalibrate, and remember that you are more than the chaos around you.
Spirituality vs. Religion
A lot of people avoid spirituality because they confuse it with religion. But they’re not the same. Religion is a set of systems, beliefs, and practices defined by others. In my opinion, a set of made up rules to control people. It’s my opinion and I stand firmly on it.
Spirituality on the other hand is the personal connection you create for yourself. It’s the daily practices, the rituals, the conversations you have with your own SOUL.
That could look like:
Sitting in silence for ten minutes a day.
Watching the sunrise and letting yourself feel awe.
Lighting a candle and setting an intention before bed.
Journaling when your mind feels heavy.
Going on a walk and actually listening—to your breath, to nature, to yourself.
None of this requires a church, a preacher, or a label. It just requires you showing up for yourself with intention, consistently so that you have a practice you can rely on when you need it.
The Hard Truth
Let me be blunt: things in the world are not going to get easier anytime soon. We’re living through constant change, uncertainty, and pressure. If you don’t have something to anchor you, you will feel tossed around by every wave. Spirituality is that anchor. It’s not about escaping the storm—it’s about finding your center in the storm. It’s about resilience, strength, and peace that doesn’t depend on outside circumstances.
Why Start Now?
Because building your spiritual foundation when things are calm is like strengthening your muscles before you run the marathon. If you wait until everything collapses to ask, “What do I lean on?”—you’re already behind. Start now. Build small practices of presence, gratitude, and connection into your daily life. Call it spirituality, call it soul-work, call it whatever you want—but give yourself the gift of something bigger than the daily grind.
A Final Word
You don’t have to believe in angels, astrology, or any one specific path. But you do need to believe in something. In your own inner wisdom. In the unseen forces of life. In the simple truth that you are part of something greater than yourself.
Because when push comes to shove—and it will—you’ll want more than logic and luck on your side. You’ll want strength, peace, and a sense of meaning. And that comes from leaning into your spirituality and knowing that whatever comes your way you will be okay. Reach out if you have questions, ideas on how to start or just want to connect. xoxo Donna
